What is a Navigation Menu?

A navigation menu is a collection of links that lead to a website’s main pages. Typically, navigation menus are located either at the top of the screen or in a sidebar. However, that location may vary.

More About Navigation Menus

Navigation menus come in all shapes and sizes. The most common menu type tends to be located at the top of the screen. That way, users know they have to go back to the top to visit other main pages.

Some websites also include links in the sidebar or footer. However, these links tend to be lower in the hierarchical scale if a main navigation menu is present.

Navigation menu can include more than simple text links. Depending on the design, you can have fixed navigation or elements that open up to reveal additional links when you mouse over them.
