What is a Keyword?
Keywords are words or phrases that describe the content of a website or web page. They help search engines match these elements to relevant searches.
More About Keywords
When someone types a word or phrase into a search engine, they are looking for results that are relevant to that keyword. Therefore, in order for a website to rank high in the search results for a particular keyword, a website must optimize its content for that keyword.
This means the keyword should appear organically across its content. This can be in post titles, subheadings, image alt text, text, etc. However, too many repeated keywords on a website can actually hurt its ranking. This is called ‘keyword stuffing’ and it’s something to avoid as it’s considered to be unethical and can lead to penalties.
Strong keywords should have both a high monthly search volume and, ideally, low competition. Additionally, long-tail keywords (which contain three or more words) are sometimes more effective than shorter keywords.
