2014 Transparency Report
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again.
We take your privacy seriously.
So seriously, in fact, that we are thrilled to present to you our first ever Transparency Report! In it, you will find the number and type of all government requests we received in 2014, separated into three categories: search warrants, subpoenas, and court orders. We’ve broken down these categories for you and included detailed explanations of the types of requests received and what we’ve decided to disclose, and made it all easy to understand!
So why is this important?
Very simply, we want to show you with deliciously cold, hard facts that we care about you, and will always have your back! Basically, we don’t and will not ever give out private customer data all willy-nilly to anyone who asks for it! DreamHost now has over 400,000 customers and hosts over 1.5 million websites — that’s a lot of customer data! As a result, we regularly receive government requests from agencies all over the world, including copyright infringement notices, hate speech allegations, and defamation complaints. In this Transparency Report you will be able to see detailed information about the kinds of requests we’ve received, what we’ve complied with, and what we’ve rejected.
One of our core values here at DreamHost is to practice shameless honesty. That not only goes for how our employees work together, but it also applies to you — our customers. We believe that being transparent with each other is the best way to build trust, mutual respect, and (if we’re lucky) even love.
As mentioned, we value your privacy, dear DreamHoster, and will always protect it to the fullest extent of the law. Our hard-working Abuse and Legal teams work day and night to keep your customer data secure. And because we value shameless honesty, we want to be as transparent as possible about the government requests we’ve received, and make this data accessible to the public, for all to see!
So here it is, in all its undisguised glory — our first annual Transparency Report 2014!
