What are Media Settings?

The media settings in WordPress enable you to configure how the CMS displays media files. For instance, you’ll find options for changing the resolutions in which WordPress displays images.

More About Media Settings

When you upload an image to the Media Library, WordPress automatically generates multiple versions of it in different resolutions. For each image, you’ll have a thumbnail, a medium size, and a large size. You can choose from those sizes when placing an image on your site.

The Media Settings screen enables you to configure the maximum resolution for each of those image sizes. You can also enable image cropping for thumbnails to prevent distortion when WordPress resizes images into small resolutions.

Finally, the Media Settings screen includes an option for organizing uploads into month-and-year folders. You won’t see these folders in the Media Library, as they’re located in the WordPress wp-content/uploads directory.
