Working with a diverse, distributed community is difficult. There are going to be disagreements that spin out of nowhere because of communication gaffs, and there are going to be problems that arise from clashing work methods. All of those can be solved by patience and a little kindness.
The longer you work with a community, the more your casual words are taken beyond how you meant them. And sometimes you’ll find yourself being blasted from all sides for expressing an opinion. Learning how to deal with this involves understanding and recognizing what’s going on and then pushing it in a productive direction.
This talk will give you the skills to handle being targeted without hurting yourself or the community.
