Why DreamHost is Headed to WordCamp US 2025!

WordCamp and WordPress have been around for a long time, since 2006 and 2003 respectively, but their longevity only proves their relevance. And in 2025, WordCamp feels even more vital than ever.

It’s not just a legacy event; it’s a dynamic reflection of the WordPress community in motion, built on openness, accessibility, and people.

As a company rooted in open-source values, DreamHost shows up at WordCamp US not just out of tradition, networking or cool swag (we can never say no to those, though). We go because we wholeheartedly believe in what it stands for: an open, community-powered web worth building and protecting

It’s Bigger Than Us

WordPress powers nearly 44% of all websites, and holds over 60% of the CMS market share while also boasting a vast ecosystem with 30,000+ themes and well over 70,000 plugins available. That kind of scale is powered not just by software, but by the open-source community, and it’s why we can’t afford not to show up.

“It’s the community behind WordPress that truly gives it staying power,” says Chris Ghazarian, DreamHost’s Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. “It’s the people who choose to contribute and help others succeed. Without that energy, all the code in the world would just be lines on a screen.”

WordCamp US is one of the few events where users, developers, designers, web hosts, business owners, and curious newcomers come together—not as competitors, but as collaborators. Whether you’re contributing or just exploring WordPress for the first time, everyone has a place at WordCamp!

What Happens at WordCamp US?

WordCamp US 2025 spans four packed days of creativity, collaboration, and learning for anyone who works or even just scrolls endlessly in the world of WordPress.

  • Contributor Day (August 26): A high-energy kickoff where WordPress enthusiasts of all skill levels join teams like Core Development, Community, Documentation, Design, Theme Review, Plugins, Hosting, Training, and more, to help improve the project together. It’s a unique hands-on way to connect and contribute, even before the main event begins.
  • Showcase Day (August 27): A day dedicated to inspiration. Discover creative, real‑world uses of WordPress that spark fresh ideas and show what’s possible with open tools and platforms.
  • Sessions (August 28 & 29): Two full days of panels and workshops covering everything from WordPress trends, strategies, developments, blogging and design. There are even several talks around the use of AI in WordPress, including a workshop that’ll get you building plugins in 30 minutes or less with WordPress! Be sure to check out “Zero to Plugin in 30 minutes – Harnessing AI Coding Assistants for WordPress Development

But honestly, some of the most meaningful insights emerge outside the scheduled panels and sessions.  The infamous “Hallway Track” occurs in hallways and lunch tables, and in after-hour brainstorms. For us, it’s an invaluable space to learn, adjust, and improve how we show up among builders of the Open Web.

“We go to WordCamp to be part of those moments because they reveal what people really need,” Ghazarian says. “We go because the community often knows what is next long before anyone else does.”

Supporting What Supports Us

Open source software has never been more important to the future of the Open Web, and WordPress’ mission to democratize publishing has always been a cause worth supporting. That’s why we give back through community support, participation, and maintaining consistent presence in the WordPress Community through our Five for the Future pledge

“Helping to create real-world opportunities for the WordPress community to come together and collaborate beyond the confines of a computer monitor is one of the most meaningful ways that I can think to support WordPress,” says Brett Dunst, DreamHost’s VP of Corporate Communications. “Being able to engage not just with our own customers face-to-face, but with the WordPress community at large, is an essential part of growing together.” This is Brett’s fourth consecutive year on the WordCamp US organizing team.

Why We Really Go: The People

WordCamps are where real relationships are built.

The social media mentions and handshakes are nice, but WordCamps are where customer interactions turn into product improvements, partner chats spark collaborations, and happy hour convos turn into long-time friendships.

In a world dominated by rapid tech shifts, WordCamp US reminds us that people still power the web. “The web is evolving faster than ever,” Ghazarian says. “That is exactly why WordCamp matters more than ever and why we keep showing up. You cannot shape the future of the internet if you’re not willing to stand in the same room with the people building it.”
