Meet John Job, DreamHost’s very own WordPress Support Specialist and resident optimist. Since joining DreamHost in January 2021, Job has become a shining example of what it means to bring positivity, warmth, and enthusiasm to technical support, all the way from his home in Cape Town, South Africa.
Finding the Right Fit
Before joining DreamHost, Job already had prior experience in web hosting, but he sought a fresh start and new growth opportunities. He recalls his previous company wasn’t the right fit.
Enter DreamHost. It was his first time working for an international company with teammates spread worldwide. “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made,” he said without hesitation.
The support structure hooked him in early. “There’s never a day where I wake up and think, ‘I don’t want to go to work,” Job said. “At my past jobs, that happened often. Here, I actually look forward to it.”

A Culture of Support
For Job, DreamHost’s collaborative environment isn’t just talk, it’s a daily reality. “Even if I ask the same question a hundred times, my teammates and managers are patient and supportive,” he said.
That spirit of openness makes all the difference. “We’ve got assist channels where anyone can ask for help, and someone always responds within minutes,” Job said. “It’s never, ‘Why don’t you know this?’ It’s ‘Let’s figure it out together.’”
That teamwork, he said, has made DreamHost feel like more than a workplace. “I’ve never thought about leaving,” Job admitted. “Even as a contractor, I could get a job locally, but I won’t. I feel comfortable here, I feel valued.”
From Live Chat to WordPress
Job began his DreamHost journey on the Live Chat team, helping customers troubleshoot in real time. His natural curiosity and desire to learn quickly propelled him to a new role on the WordPress Support team.
“The learning opportunities are unbelievable,” he said. “Every day is different, and there’s always something new to master.”
One thing he’s always mastered and happens to be his favorite part of the job—talking to customers. He enjoys interacting with people and helping them solve their problems. That passion for connection has made him a go-to for customers and DreamHost team members alike.
Job’s also part of the Production Site project, where he helps build free, simple WordPress websites for customers. “Ten years ago, I never would have believed I’d be building websites,” he said. “It’s amazing to see how far I’ve come.”
The Power of Positivity
If there’s one quality that defines Job, it’s his unshakeable positivity. “I had an old manager who told me she still remembers how I’d say, ‘It’s fantastic to be alive!’ every morning,” he laughed.
That attitude has served him well at DreamHost, especially when helping frustrated customers. “People come to us because something’s not working,” he explained. “If I stay positive, it helps calm them down. It makes everything easier.”

Life in Cape Town
When he’s not helping customers or learning something new, Job enjoys spending time with his wife, Candice, and their two kids, Seth and Sarah-Jane.
“My family is my joy,” Job said proudly. “And because I work from home, I see them more than ever.”
At home, Job’s also the family chef, known for whipping up homemade lasagna, curries, and pies. “We used to eat a lot of takeout,” he admitted. “Now, I cook almost every day. It’s one of my favorite things to do.”
When he’s off the clock, you’ll likely find him soaking up outdoor activities at the beach or on a bike ride with his daughter. “Cape Town is perfect for outdoor life,” he said. “We love hiking Table Mountain or just relaxing at the beach.”
When it’s time to unwind at night, Job turns on the movies or television series on Netflix (currently, he’s into British series such as Adolescence). “I can watch movies all day, though lately, I keep falling asleep halfway through.”

Always Learning, Always Growing
Whether it’s exploring new tech, trying a new recipe, or jumping into a new challenge (like this spotlight interview!), Job is all about personal and professional growth. “I told myself, just take it on. That’s how you learn.”
If there’s one lesson he hopes others take away from his story, it’s this: positivity is powerful.
“I just believe in being positive,” he said. “At the end of the day, that’s what keeps me going—helping people, learning new things, and staying thankful. It really is fantastic to be alive.”
