What is Unicode?

The Unicode Standard is an international encoding standard which makes coding language uniform across different writing systems. This provides a unique number for each character, which can be used no matter the device, platform, application, or language.

More About Unicode

Unicode was developed by the Unicode Consortium. This non-profit organization aimed to globalize a standard representation of text in software. It created Unicode, which is a character coding system that enables text to be interchanged, processed, and displayed across language barriers. When you globalize a consistent method of character encoding, this makes it easier to exchange text files internationally.

With Unicode, people no longer have to learn multilingual text, or worry about mathematical symbols or technical characters. Unicode covers alphabetic scripts, right-to-left scripts, punctuation, technical symbols, emojis, diacritics, and more. It provides over 135,000 characters that anyone can use.
