Sure, she’s proud of me. If not for anything else, for finding a wife she approves of. I feel good as long as I’m proud of what I’ve done and what I’m doing. So far, so good!

I love working in down-town Los Angeles on the 50th floor. We have an excellent view of the helicopters flying around the city. Plus the LAPD choppers seem to like to land on the helipad on the building next door just below us. Makes it had to get any work done with these types of distractions! But I love it!

Justin Knierim

Technical Support Manager

Q&A With Justin

What do you do at DreamHost?

Tech support, some server maintenance, and much MySQL optimization and maintenance. I also try to keep the tech support people from annoying every single person outside our office with their loud music and bass.

What’s your favorite part about working here?

It is a great atmosphere and lots of geeky people with which to talk geeky talk.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen while working at DreamHost?

That would have to be the massive nerf gun war in the office, no one was safe, and we found missing darts behind computers, desks, everywhere for months. Second place would be the day I found one customer running a 5 billion row query on shared hosting MySQL. Yeah…might want to optimize that a tad.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen in your LIFE?

I moved from Southern California to Siegen, Germany at 20 years old to live on my own for a few years. I went there to get learn programming further, and see some of Europe. It was lots of fun and since everything was unknown and new to me, there was much craziness.

What is your favorite…

I normally listen to web radio and flip around a lot.

Do you have a website or blog?

Sure do, but like most personal blogs it is a boring, infrequently updated mess: http://knierim.org/

Q&A with Luke

What’s the most memorable thing you’ve seen while working at DreamHost?

I got trapped in AON for hours after the Lakers fans rioted and burned a taxi out front and the cops gassed the exits of the building.

Is your mother proud of you? If she’s out of the picture, do you think she would be proud of you? Why or why not? How does that make you feel?

My mother is proud of me. I think she is proud of me because I am happy with where I am in life and doing what I have always wanted to do.

Wood: Now this poses an interesting question. As one of the runner ups in the regional 4H forestry competition growing up I have a lot of experience in this field. Cedar has a nice smell but I have always been fond of pine trees due to their unique leaf structure. I used to bale loblolly pine straw and sell it so I would say that but loblolly is so prone to fusiform rust. White pines are much prettier with shorter needles, 5 needles per sheath, and a more Christmas tree look but its not native to the part of Georgia I’m from. So, I think I will go with Longleaf Pine as this question was about wood and it is commonly used for that :P

Movie: Um… don’t really have a favorite movie.

We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here. — Richard Dawkins
