Guitars line the walls. A peacock-blue one called The Phoenix sits within arm\u2019s reach of his mixing console. This is where Zero Buffalo Sound records, where he lays down tracks for his band and produces work for other local musicians, which means he exists in two distinct professional spaces. For a long time, neither felt right on the web. The first was full of limitations, and the second felt compromised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;m a web developer by day and a musician by night,&#8221; he says. Both sides stem from the same place: a need to create something complete, from concept to finish. Remixer was the perfect solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Month-Long Grind<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Champion had learned to make his own tools. After 30 years in tech, building for himself had become second nature. His old hosting company nickel-and-dimed him with surprise renewal fees and forced upgrades. Their website builder locked him into templates, wouldn&#8217;t let him customize the header the way he wanted, and kept suggesting he &#8220;upgrade to Pro&#8221; for features that should have been standard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After batting his head against the wall for far too long, he resigned himself to taking matters into his own hands by coding it himself from scratch, exactly the scenario a site builder is supposed to prevent!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building it himself would have consumed a month of nights and weekends. He&#8217;d found himself forced to put in the work because his vision couldn&#8217;t fit into templates. Two completely different professional sides needed showcasing, each with its own visual language and purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His day work consists of digital accessibility and UX design, which is very precise, professional, and focused on implementing WCAG standards and semantic code. While his nights are consumed by his work with <a href=\"https:\/\/zerobuffalo.com\/\">Zero Buffalo<\/a>, a band he&#8217;s revived three times since 1994. The name comes from the near-eradication of the American bison, a historical reminder of consequence and environmental destruction. The band doesn\u2019t shy away from serious themes. Zero Buffalo records entirely in Champion\u2019s home studio, which also serves as a place where he produces work for other local bands.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These aren&#8217;t things that fit neatly into a box,&#8221; he says. &#8220;If I put my accessibility work on the same page as Zero Buffalo, one of them gets buried. And if I buried either one, I&#8217;d be lying about who I am.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem was that intention, when you&#8217;re writing code, consumes time. And with a career transition coming, Champion needed something faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Then He Opened Remixer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Life shifted, and suddenly, Champion realized that having his professional site live and polished mattered more than waiting for the perfect moment to build it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He started researching, and AI searches kept pointing him to DreamHost. A few YouTube videos mentioned something called Remixer. At first, he was skeptical because he&#8217;d tried website builders before. To him, they felt restrictive. Past experiences with site builders had him fighting the tools rather than <em>using<\/em> them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I didn&#8217;t have very high expectations,&#8221; he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then he opened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dreamhost.com\/remixer-website-builder\/\">Remixer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What Collaboration Actually Feels Like<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first thing that caught him off guard was that Remixer didn&#8217;t push back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It felt more like a collaboration than just typing up code,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Before I knew it, I had a working site.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it was one specific moment that made him believe it might actually work. He needed a persistent music player that would stay at the top of the page as people scrolled through the band&#8217;s site, something that pulled tracks directly from Bandcamp so new music would update automatically. Correctly. On the first try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I pulled up the code expecting to find some hacky workaround,&#8221; he says. &#8220;Instead, it was clean. Well-structured. It actually understood what I was asking for.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, when the persistent player actually worked: \u201cIt kind of felt like magic.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone who actually knows accessibility standards (his job involved making sure other developers&#8217; code met WCAG requirements), Champion tested it, including forms, mobile layouts, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, color contrast&#8230; It all held up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s outputting semantic HTML,&#8221; he says. &#8220;It\u2019s clean, responsive, and accessible. When I wanted something with more depth or accessibility richness, I could ask for it and it delivered. That changed everything about how I approached the build.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When DreamHost Actually Felt Like A Partner<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After building most of the Zero Buffalo site on a subdomain, Champion realized he needed it on the main domain. Normally that&#8217;s a manual migration by moving files, reconfiguring, and hoping nothing breaks. So, he opened a support ticket explaining the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DreamHost moved it for him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;d already put so much work into this,&#8221; he says. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t want to start over. But they just made it happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What mattered more was the support itself. Champion has dealt with hosting companies before where he&#8217;s heard the scripts and endured the upsell pitches. To him, this was different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;They didn&#8217;t treat me like I didn&#8217;t know anything,&#8221; he says. &#8220;They felt like partners. We&#8217;re keeping a ticket open for an attachment issue I found, and they&#8217;re actually working on it. More importantly, it was freeing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Champion could describe what he wanted in plain language. He uses Copilot to refine his prompts first, then feeds them to Remixer: colors, layouts, custom elements, and integrations. None of it requires remembering CSS syntax or debugging at midnight. What surprised him was that Remixer offered suggestions as he worked. \u201cIt\u2019s almost like having a creative director and a developer in the room at the same time,\u201d he says. \u201cAnd more times than not, I end up using some of those suggestions.\u201d That includes handing the reins over to Remixer on things like error handling in forms, accessibility improvements\u2026basically things he would have planned for but didn\u2019t have to ask for.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I care more about the final product now,&#8221; he says. &#8220;The code itself stopped being interesting to me years ago. I wanted to see what I was imagining become real, without spending three weeks making it work.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What Champion didn\u2019t mention at first was he that kept pushing Remixer harder. He tested the forms, responsiveness, image galleries, and all the little things that had frustrated him with other builders. \u201cIn the past, when I experimented with widget editors, it just never worked out,\u201d he says. \u201cYou\u2019d get endless breakpoints, media queries, endless testing, and even at the end, you don\u2019t really get the product you want. You have to make compromises.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remixer handled it all, and each time it worked, he added more. \u201cAfter the first couple of pages, I realized this was doing a lot more than I thought it was going to be able to do\u2026 it\u2019s like, I can\u2019t believe that this is pretty much achieving everything that I need and more.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When the Band Understood<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Zero Buffalo is where it all came together.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/zerobuffalo.com\">zerobuffalo.com<\/a> is the opposite of corporate. Dark background, bold white typography, rust-orange accent colors. The persistent music player sits at the top like a stage. The gallery features live session videos and song releases. The whole site feels like walking into a band&#8217;s rehearsal space. It doesn&#8217;t look like every other indie musician\u2019s site. It looks like Zero Buffalo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I wanted everything to make sense,&#8221; he says. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t want it cluttered or chaotic. I wanted it to flow naturally and be easy to navigate. I wasn&#8217;t going to cut corners to finish faster.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Champion showed the Zero Buffalo site to Warren and Riki, the reaction was immediate. \u201cThey were stunned. They asked how I got it built so fast and couldn&#8217;t believe it was done in days instead of months.\u201d They understood the site <em>was the band,<\/em> not just some separate promotional tool.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site has become what it was supposed to be: a home base for what Zero Buffalo stands for. It\u2019s where the band\u2019s mission lives, where the aesthetic matches the sound, and where the collaborative work actually lands. Social media drives people to the site, while the site is where they understand the actual band.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Social media is kind of a storm,&#8221; he says. &#8220;The website is the lighthouse. On Instagram or TikTok, the algorithm decides who sees you. One bad month and your audience vanishes. But this? This is ours. People bookmark it. They come back.
