The Junior Security Engineer with be responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and reliable computing environment for DreamHost and its customers.



  • Respond to incoming security-related issues
  • Provide detailed reports on effectiveness of mitigation methods and attacker trends
  • Keep apprised of new security trends and mitigation techniques
  • Work alongside the System Administration, Abuse, and Development teams to implement best-in-class security measures
  • Design and implement new safeguards to protect customer websites and accounts from new and existing threats

  • Good analytical, problem-solving, judgement, and decision-making skills

  • Web hosting experience (either as a customer or a provider)
  • Perl/Shell (or similar scripting language) experience
  • Linux (Debian/Ubuntu/Gentoo)
  • Familiarity with standard security/troubleshooting tools (tcpdump, snort, grsecurity, OSSEC)
  • Experience with mod_security or other WAFs a strong plus
  • Programming/debugging experience (C/C++ preferred)
  • Knowledge of low level Linux concepts (Kernels, glibc, strace)
  • Knowledge of revision control systems (git, svn, cvs) a plus
  • 0-3 years experience in a security response or system administration role
  • Some experience as an Free Software/Open Source contributor
