The Redesign of Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!

Howdy, Internet. My name is Jason W. Brown, and thanks to all of the experimenting my parents did while I was in the womb, I am what some people would call a creative person. DreamHost was kind enough to select me during the Creative People Draft of 2012, and I’ve been their Creative Director ever since. Enough about me already. Let’s dive into the meat and taters of why you’re here.

DreamHost has been around for a while. We’re talking Saturday morning cartoons, 2Pac, and Melrose Place era-like while. Throughout the years, has gone through some changes, but it had never really went under the knife until this year.

Why now? Whose decision was it? What’s Andrew Shue look like these days?

The easy answer would be to say that we just felt like it. That we got tired of wearing the same clothes, driving the same car, and rockin’ the same haircut for what seemed like forever, so we just changed it. We could also go the avant-garde, George Lucas route, and say that we were forced to wait until HTML, CSS, and Javascript technology were strong enough to support our ideas behind a redesign, but that’s just silly. The truth is, we’re all grown up. We’re proud of who we are, what we do, and how much we’ve managed to help our customers over the past 17 years, and it’s about time this feeling echoed throughout our brand.

Throughout this week I’ll be prepping a series of blog posts that’ll take you behind the scenes of our brand refresh and website redesign. Each post will talk about how our research and unique democratic decision process helped shape the following:

1. The direction and look of the new logo.

2. How the website looks and functions.

3. The future look and feel of DreamHost.
