Confessions of a ROTY addict

Hello, my name is Andrea, and I’m a ROTY addict.

Let’s clear things up before minds start spinning: ROTY stands for Reach Out and Touch You, which is the name of the customer-appreciation tours DreamHost runs all across the country. You may have read previous blog posts, and you may have participated, but if you haven’t yet, let me tell you what you’re missing!

During these events, we (DreamHost) and you (the customer) mingle in a relaxed (ahem, a bar) environment to catch up, see what you’re up to, how we can help, perhaps meet fellow DreamHost community members and network a bit. It’s all informal, but it’s not just fun and games. We really do want to hear what you’ve got to say, we really do want to know what you need from us – because we care! And if there’s praise for tech support, so be it 🙂

Confession: when these events started, and my boss wanted to send me, I resisted. I understood that representing my team, Tech Support, was important , and as the director of the team, I should take on that role. But the idea of talking to strangers made me crawl up the wall. And that’s where I was wrong! You’re not strangers; you’re our community. You’re part of our daily workflow, you’re the reason why we’re here, why we’re trying to constantly improve how we run our team, and ultimately find better ways to support you (Live Chat)  Little did I know that I would become addicted to the rush.Ahem, I mean I would actually look forward to meeting you, putting faces to names, learning about your projects and finding out what you need from us – what works, what doesn’t, why an app would make your web hosting life easier, etc. We’re also open to hear your grievances too, so we can do things better next time. You won’t hurt our feelings; tell us how we can help! If you have feedback on how we could handle any issues better, we’d like to hear from you.! We’re also here to answer your questions, and if they’re technical, I’m ready to help! Seriously, bring your notes. Ask me anything! And if I can’t help you, I’ll find someone who can – or I’ll follow up. I come armed with business cards and am not afraid to use them!
