DreamCon Speaker Series #11 Oscar Padilla

Speaker: Oscar Padilla

Topic: Understanding VPS memory usage

Ever wondered if you’ve outgrown shared hosting? Curious about what a Dreamhost VPS is? Do you really need a dedicated server? If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions (or just want to geek out with us), then you’re in luck! At Dreamcon, I’ll be talking about shared hosting and much more!

It’s tough to communicate to customers why they need to upgrade to a Dreamhost VPS or a dedicated server – without sounding like you’re shamelessly up-selling. The reality is: there’s no “one-size- fits-all” solution for everyone. That’s why we’re here to  help you understand when you’re ready to upgrade. In fact, that’s what my presentation is all about!

We’ll also explore what can cause heavy CPU and RAM usage on shared, PS and dedicated environments. Plus, you’ll find out how to keep your sites purring like a champ!

What do you do at DreamHost?

I’m one of the Technical Support Leads at Dreamhost. I focus mainly on VPS and dedicated customers – and  I help train the tech support team. When I’m not solving customer issues, I  make sure no one takes away my title of “WORLD’S BEST FOOSBALL PLAYER”.

What projects do you work on? What do you do on a regular basis?

VPS and dedicated servers are my specialty, along with domain registrations. Lately I’ve been focusing on creating training materials that improve the overall knowledge of our tech support staff.

What’s one interesting fact we don’t know about you?

I missed the 1994 World Cup Final at the Rose Bowl because my mom didn’t wake me up. C’mon, on MOM!!!!!

   What’s your favorite LA eatery?

Los Molcajetes – Pupuseria on Beverly Blvd.

What movies are in your Netflix instant queue?

Lately I’ve been watching TV shows. The League, How I Met Your Mother, Tron Uprising (Disney should really reconsider bringing that show back), Sherlock and House of Cards. Oh…and I can’t wait for Luthor season three.

Where are you going on your next vacation?

Europe on my honeymoon!
