DreamObjects is here!

Back in September we took the wraps off of a neat little project we’d been working on for quite some time. In fact, some of you have been using it since those early days!

DreamObjects

DreamObjects is, of course, our object-based storage offering. Designed from the ground-up to be API-compatible with both Amazon’s S3 and OpenStack Object Storage (formerly known as Swift,) DreamObjects is developer-friendly cloud storage that’s a natural fit for both web apps and backup purposes alike!

And, lest you forget, DreamObjects is built on top of Ceph – the open source file system that was created to deal with truly massive amounts of data stored across many hundreds (thousands!) of machines.

Ceph also sprang forth from our loins, having been a glimmer in DreamHost co-founder Sage Weil‘s eye for many years. It was incubated within the DreamHost offices and now is supported by DreamHost’s spinoff sister company, Inktank.

ANYWAY, back to today’s news.

DreamObjects hit beta back on September 5th, and over the course of the last five months we have spent a remarkable amount of time taking customer feedback to heart and improving what was already a very solid offering.

We’re happy to announce that as of today, DreamObjects is out of beta! Check out the press release. You can sign up for it right now!

DreamObjects is its own person – while it will happily live alongside any shared, VPS, or dedicated hosting accounts you may have with us, they are not prerequisites. You can sign up for DreamObjects and only DreamObjects if that’s what you need! Just go here to get started!

If you are a current DreamHost customer, you don’t even need to do that. Just visit the “DreamObjects” section of your control panel to get started:

DreamObjects launches today with a one-month free trial for all signups, during which time you can store up to 100GB of data and transfer out up to 100GB! Uploads and API calls are always free!

Calm down! I own all this music.

Tiered pricing and pay-as-you go options start at just $0.07 per GB (storage and transfer) and scale all the way down to less than $0.045 for the heaviest users.

We’ve got a large list of updates and enhancements in the pipeline for DreamObjects, so it’ll only get better from here, folks. Expect more announcements in the weeks to come!

And, don’t forget, we’ve working fast and furious to bring DreamCompute out of beta and should have more to report there in the not-too-distant future.

YEAH!
